A comforting and hearty Meatball and Mashed Potato Bake, perfect for a family dinner. This recipe combines tender meatballs, creamy mashed potatoes, and a rich tomato sauce, all baked to golden perfection.

- 1.5 lbs ground beef
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1 tbsp dried oregano
- 1 tbsp dried basil
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 (28 ounce) can crushed tomatoes
- 1 (15 ounce) can tomato sauce
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes (optional)
- 3 lbs potatoes, peeled and quartered
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/4 cup butter
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, milk, egg, oregano, basil, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix until just combined.
- Form the mixture into 1-inch meatballs.
- In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Brown the meatballs on all sides. Remove from skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, and red pepper flakes (if using). Bring to a simmer.
- Add the meatballs back to the sauce and cook for 10 minutes.
- While the meatballs are simmering, boil the potatoes in salted water until tender, about 15-20 minutes.
- Drain the potatoes and mash them with milk, butter, salt, and pepper until smooth.
- In a baking dish, spread the mashed potatoes evenly.
- Pour the meatball and sauce mixture over the mashed potatoes.
- Sprinkle with shredded cheddar cheese.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly and the bake is heated through.
- Let stand for a few minutes before serving.
Notes
- For a spicier dish, add more red pepper flakes.
- You can use store-bought meatballs if you’re short on time.
- Feel free to add other vegetables to the sauce, such as chopped onions, bell peppers, or mushrooms.
- Garnish with fresh parsley before serving.
