Description

Classic cheeseburgers made at home, simple and delicious. Perfect for a quick weeknight meal or a weekend barbecue. This recipe keeps it simple, focusing on flavor and ease.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef (80/20 blend recommended)
  • 4 burger buns
  • 4 slices cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 1/4 cup mustard
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 small onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 large tomatoes, sliced
  • 8 lettuce leaves
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional: Dill pickle slices

Instructions

  1. Prepare the patties: Gently form the ground beef into 4 equal patties. Season generously with salt and pepper. Don’t overwork the meat.
  2. Cook the patties: Heat a skillet or griddle over medium-high heat. Cook the patties for 3-4 minutes per side for medium doneness, or longer to your preference. In the last minute, place a slice of cheddar cheese on each patty to melt.
  3. Toast the buns: Lightly toast the burger buns in the same skillet or in a toaster.
  4. Assemble the burgers: Spread mayonnaise on the bottom bun. Add lettuce, then a tomato slice. Place the cheeseburger patty on top. Add ketchup, mustard, onion slices, and pickle slices (if using). Top with the other half of the bun.
  5. Serve immediately: Enjoy your delicious homemade cheeseburgers!

Notes

  • For a juicier burger, add a small pat of butter to the skillet while cooking.
  • Experiment with different cheeses, like Swiss or pepper jack.
  • Grilling the burgers adds a smoky flavor.
  • For a healthier option, use lean ground beef or turkey.
