Description

This irresistible Sticky Sesame Chicken features crispy chicken pieces tossed in a sweet and savory sauce, topped with sesame seeds. A takeout favorite made easy at home!


Ingredients

  • 1.5 lbs boneless, skinless chicken thighs, cut into 1-inch pieces
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 3 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • For the sauce:
  • 1/2 cup soy sauce
  • 1/3 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 3 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons sesame oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon ginger, grated
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons water
  • 2 tablespoons toasted sesame seeds
  • 2 green onions, sliced (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, coat chicken pieces with cornstarch.
  2. Dip each coated piece in beaten eggs.
  3. Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  4. Cook chicken in batches until golden brown and cooked through, about 4-5 minutes per side. Set aside.
  5. In a saucepan, combine soy sauce, honey, brown sugar, rice vinegar, sesame oil, garlic, and ginger.
  6. Bring to a simmer over medium heat, stirring occasionally.
  7. Add cornstarch slurry and cook until sauce thickens, about 2-3 minutes.
  8. Return chicken to the pan and toss to coat with sauce.
  9. Sprinkle with sesame seeds and green onions before serving.

Notes

  • For extra crispiness, double-coat the chicken pieces in cornstarch then egg.
  • Serve over steamed rice or noodles.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
  • The sauce can be made ahead and stored separately.
