Ingredients
Scale
- 8 oz block of mozzarella cheese, cut into 1-inch cubes
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 large egg
- 1 cup breadcrumbs (Italian seasoned preferred)
- Vegetable oil, for frying
- Marinara sauce, for dipping
Instructions
- In a shallow dish, whisk together the flour, salt, and pepper.
- In a separate shallow dish, whisk together the milk and egg.
- Place the breadcrumbs in a third shallow dish.
- Dredge each cheese cube in the flour mixture, then dip it in the egg mixture, and finally, coat it with breadcrumbs, ensuring it’s fully covered.
- Heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350°F (175°C).
- Carefully place the cheese bites in the hot oil, a few at a time, being careful not to overcrowd the pot.
- Fry for 1-2 minutes, or until golden brown and the cheese is melty.
- Remove the cheese bites with a slotted spoon and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.
- Serve immediately with warm marinara sauce for dipping.
Notes
- For extra cheesy flavor, use a blend of mozzarella and provolone.
- If you don’t have breadcrumbs, you can crush crackers or use panko breadcrumbs for a crispier coating.
- Make sure the oil is hot enough, otherwise, the cheese bites will absorb too much oil.
- For a spicier kick, add a pinch of red pepper flakes to the flour mixture.
